WD23PURZ WD Purple 2TB SATA 64 MB 3.5" Consumer HDD

Enterprise 3.5-inch Surveillance HDD featuring sustained multi-stream recording with the WD23PURZ

The WD23PURZ is a 3.5-inch internal SATA HDD engineered for NVR/DVR platforms where continuous ingest and predictable write latency matter more than peak IOPS. In surveillance architectures, host CPU and GPU resources are typically dedicated to video analytics and stream handling, so the storage tier must absorb parallel camera writes without destabilising the overall pipeline; the WD23PURZ aligns to this design by prioritising steady recording behaviour and controlled error recovery characteristics.

Designed around SATA 6Gb/s connectivity, the WD23PURZ integrates cleanly into PCIe-based storage controllers, RAID HBAs, and edge recording appliances without forcing a change in expansion strategy. Its CMR recording method and AllFrame support help maintain write consistency under multi-stream workloads, while Advanced Format 4Kn with 512e emulation supports modern sector alignment across mixed OS and NVR firmware environments. For capacity expansion, the WD23PURZ fits naturally into bulk SATA tiers where predictable thermals and power draw are important for dense chassis planning.

Why Choose the WD23PURZ?

The WD23PURZ provides a pragmatic density-to-reliability profile for surveillance retention, combining sustained write capability with an enterprise-friendly operational envelope for always-on deployments. With 1,000,000 hours MTBF and a workload focus on continuous recording, the WD23PURZ supports scalable rollouts from single-site appliances to distributed, multi-recorder fleets while keeping service models straightforward for IT and security operations.

WD designs the Purple series around long-duty-cycle recording environments, emphasising consistent behaviour under 24/7 load, platform compatibility across common NVR/DVR stacks, and mechanical tuning that aligns with data centre and edge-rack acoustic and power expectations.

Key Applications:

• NVR and DVR recording arrays
• Multi-camera retention storage tiers
• Edge security appliances in branch sites
• Bulk SATA capacity expansion for surveillance archives
