ST1200MM0018 Seagate Enterprise Performance 10K 1.2TB SAS 128 MB 2.5" Server HDD

High-Density 2.5-inch SAS Enterprise HDD with Integrated NAND Acceleration using the ST1200MM0018

The ST1200MM0018 is a 2.5-inch enterprise SAS HDD designed for 24/7 server and storage-array duty cycles, balancing predictable CMR write behavior with NAND-assisted read optimisation for mixed workloads. In SAS backplane environments, the drive supports consistent latency characteristics for shared storage pools while maintaining tight power envelopes that suit dense chassis and thermally constrained nodes.

Architecturally, ST1200MM0018 combines a traditional 128MB DRAM buffer with an integrated 32GB eMLC NAND cache to accelerate frequently accessed blocks, enabling practical read-tiering within a single spindle device. Its 512e sector format supports broad OS and RAID controller compatibility while aligning with 4K transition strategies through emulation. For expansion, ST1200MM0018 integrates cleanly into SAS ecosystems where controller queue depth, dual-port paths, and hot-swap serviceability are standard requirements for enterprise operations.

Why Choose the ST1200MM0018?

The ST1200MM0018 delivers an efficient density-to-performance profile for 2.5-inch SAS HDD pools by pairing consistent CMR behavior with integrated NAND caching, reducing pressure on upstream tiering layers. With 2.0M hours MTBF and a design tuned for continuous duty, ST1200MM0018 supports scalable deployments where reliability, predictable rebuild behavior, and straightforward spares strategy are essential.

Seagate engineers this class of enterprise HDD around sustained availability, controlled acoustics and thermals in multi-drive enclosures, and interoperability with modern RAID/HBA platforms. The focus is on dependable operation under sustained vibration and transactional I/O patterns typical of consolidated data centre storage, helping maintain service levels across standard SAS infrastructure.

Key Applications:

• 2.5-inch SAS server drive pools
• Storage arrays and SAN shelves
• Read-optimised tiering for mixed workloads
• Virtualization datastores
• Backup and nearline retention tiers
