Intel Xeon Gold 5220 18 Cores 36 Threads 3.9GHz P (LGA 3647) BX806955220 Server CPU

Enterprise 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable Server CPU with balanced core density using the Intel Xeon Gold 5220

The Intel Xeon Gold 5220 (SKU BX806955220) is a 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable “Cascade Lake” boxed processor for Socket P (LGA3647), designed for standardized rack and blade server platforms where predictable multi-tenant performance and platform longevity matter. With 18 cores and 36 threads, the Intel Xeon Gold 5220 targets consolidation-friendly compute nodes that need consistent scheduling under virtualization and strong per-socket throughput for mixed enterprise services.

Built around a DDR4 ECC memory platform up to 2667MT/s, the Intel Xeon Gold 5220 supports data integrity requirements typical of virtualized clusters and scale-up application stacks. PCIe 3.0 with 48 CPU lanes enables balanced I/O attachment for NICs, HBAs, and NVMe-capable storage controllers, while Intel VMD streamlines device management and storage topology control in modern server builds. For acceleration within general-purpose workloads, AVX-512 and DL Boost provide vector and inference-oriented capability without requiring a dedicated accelerator in every node.

Why Choose the Intel Xeon Gold 5220?

The Intel Xeon Gold 5220 delivers an effective density-to-performance profile for 2S and 4S designs, supported by 2 UPI links and 4-socket platform capability for scale-up deployments. This positions the Intel Xeon Gold 5220 as a practical choice for organizations standardizing on LGA3647 infrastructure, where reliability features, virtualization extensions (VT-x, VT-d, EPT), and encryption support (AES-NI) are required for controlled growth and long service lifecycles.

Intel engineers the Xeon Scalable family to align with enterprise data centre requirements, emphasizing validation, platform stability, and security features such as Trusted Execution Technology to support regulated workloads and consistent fleet operations.

Key Applications:

• VMware and Hyper-V virtualization consolidation
• VDI host infrastructure
• 2S/4S database and middleware platforms
• General-purpose server refresh for mixed workloads
• Secure compute nodes with hardware-assisted encryption
