WD40PURX

High-Capacity 3.5in SATA Surveillance HDD engineered for 24x7 write workloads with the WD40PURX

The WD40PURX is a 4TB 3.5in internal SATA HDD designed for video recording arrays where sustained, concurrent writes matter more than peak IOPS. In NVR/DVR platforms, the WD40PURX stabilises multi-stream ingest by combining CMR recording with Advanced Format 4K sectors (512e), keeping write behaviour predictable during long retention cycles and continuous overwrite patterns.

Architecturally, the WD40PURX integrates into standard SATA backplanes and RAID controllers, enabling scalable capacity expansion without changing host CPU or memory configurations. Its 5400 RPM profile with 64MB cache prioritises sequential throughput, low vibration impact, and controlled power draw for dense chassis deployments. Firmware features such as AllFrame 4K and TLER help maintain array responsiveness under error recovery events, while S.M.A.R.T. telemetry supports proactive maintenance workflows in edge and central recording tiers.

Why Choose the WD40PURX?

The WD40PURX provides an enterprise-relevant density-to-reliability balance for surveillance and write-heavy bulk storage, where predictable streaming performance and consistent array behaviour are required at scale. With a 1,000,000 hour MTBF, the WD40PURX aligns with 24x7 duty cycles, supports straightforward capacity scaling across multiple bays, and reduces operational risk when deployed in continuous recording environments that cannot tolerate prolonged recovery stalls.

WD designs surveillance-class drives with firmware control tuned for sustained streaming, disciplined error recovery, and ongoing health reporting. This engineering approach fits modern data centre and edge standards by supporting consistent service levels, manageable power consumption, and operational transparency across heterogeneous SATA storage stacks.

Key Applications:

NVR/DVR recording arrays
24x7 multi-camera write workloads
Edge video analytics storage tiers
SMB NAS bulk archive repositories
High-capacity SATA retention pools

At Happyware - Server Hardware you benefit from non-binding offers tailored to surveillance storage rollouts and bulk order discount options for multi-drive deployments, helping you standardise WD40PURX procurement across sites while keeping capacity planning aligned with your retention requirements.
