0B28953 WD Ultrastar C15K600 0.6TB SAS 128 MB 2.5" Consumer HDD

High-Performance 2.5in Enterprise SAS 15K HDD for tiered storage pools with the 0B28953

The 0B28953 is a WD Ultrastar C15K600 2.5in SAS 15K RPM enterprise HDD engineered for low-latency, high-IOPS drive pools in servers and storage arrays where predictable random performance and consistent duty cycles matter. Built on CMR recording with a 512n sector format, the 0B28953 aligns with legacy and mixed-generation operating environments that require native 512B compatibility without translation overhead.

Designed for SAS backplanes and hot-swap bays, the 0B28953 integrates cleanly into Tier-1 SAS architectures where PCIe resources are reserved for NVMe tiers while HDDs deliver cost-efficient performance per watt for transactional workloads. Its 128MB cache supports sustained command queuing behavior under contention, and the 2.0M-hour MTBF profile targets enterprise reliability expectations for dense, always-on chassis. Instant Secure Erase (ISE) support enables controlled decommissioning workflows while maintaining standard, non-encrypting drive deployment models.

Why Choose the 0B28953?

The 0B28953 provides a practical density-to-performance balance for environments that still depend on 2.5in SAS 15K media to meet latency targets in shared storage pools. By deploying the 0B28953 in matched hot-swap groups, IT teams can scale IOPS linearly, preserve established SAN/server backplane designs, and maintain serviceability with minimal platform change while keeping power and thermal planning predictable.

WD Ultrastar engineering emphasizes controlled vibration behavior, consistent firmware operation, and qualification for enterprise duty cycles, aligning the 0B28953 with modern data centre operational standards that prioritize availability, maintainability, and long lifecycle support across heterogeneous storage tiers.

Key Applications:

• Enterprise storage arrays and SAS hot-swap drive pools
• Databases and transaction log volumes
• Legacy SAN and server backplane refresh
• Virtualization platforms requiring predictable random I/O
