SST-RM42-502B

High-Density 4U Rackmount Server Chassis featuring multi-form-factor motherboard support with the SST-RM42-502B

The SST-RM42-502B is a 4U rackmount server chassis engineered for custom enterprise builds that prioritise secure front access and predictable serviceability in mixed compute environments. By supporting Mini-ITX through SSI EEB, the SST-RM42-502B enables platform flexibility across single-socket and dual-socket CPU generations, while maintaining a consistent rack footprint for standardised deployment.

For memory-intensive general-purpose workloads, the SST-RM42-502B pairs naturally with modern DDR5 server platforms by providing clearance and airflow potential for full-height expansion and dense DIMM topologies, while keeping storage intentionally lean for OS and utility media. PCIe expansion is defined by the chosen motherboard, but the chassis layout is suited to contemporary PCIe 4.0/5.0 server boards where NIC, HBA, or accelerator cards must be integrated without compromising cable routing. The drive bay architecture focuses on low-complexity: 1 internal 2.5" bay for boot media and 2 external 5.25" bays for auxiliary devices, aligning the enclosure to compute-first or edge-lab roles rather than high-bay storage nodes.

Why Choose the SST-RM42-502B?

The SST-RM42-502B delivers a practical density-to-performance ratio for organisations that need a secure, front-access 4U standard with broad motherboard interoperability and a redundant power path. The locking front door and intrusion switch support controlled-access installations, while redundant 2U PSU readiness provides continuity options for critical services and scalable fleet standardisation.

SilverStone focuses on mechanical integrity, airflow-aware layout, and compatibility with modern rack standards, producing enclosures that integrate cleanly with enterprise cabling practices and service workflows. This engineering approach supports reliable operation in data centre, lab, and edge racks where repeatable builds and predictable maintenance are essential.

Key Applications:

General-purpose compute nodes
Edge and lab server deployments
Secure front-access rack installations
Storage-light utility servers
