ST2000VX017

High-Density 3.5in SATA Surveillance HDD featuring 24x7 CMR recording with the ST2000VX017

The ST2000VX017 is a 3.5in internal SATA HDD engineered for continuous NVR/DVR recording pipelines where predictable write behavior matters more than burst performance. In edge appliance builds and SMB storage nodes, the ST2000VX017 supports bulk capacity tiers behind modern CPU platforms with integrated SATA controllers, keeping PCIe lanes available for NICs, GPUs, or accelerator cards while maintaining straightforward serviceability.

Using CMR media and a 256MB cache, the ST2000VX017 is optimized for sustained, sequential ingest and retention rather than mixed small-block transaction workloads. The drive’s 4Kn (512e) formatting aligns with current OS and RAID controller expectations, and its RV sensor helps preserve streaming integrity in multi-bay chassis where vibration can degrade throughput. As part of a tiered architecture, the ST2000VX017 is suited for SATA backplanes and HBA-connected JBOD shelves that prioritize capacity density, stable thermals, and consistent recording under 24x7 duty cycles.

Why Choose the ST2000VX017?

The ST2000VX017 delivers an efficient density-to-reliability profile for surveillance and edge retention, combining CMR write determinism with a 1,000,000-hour MTBF target for always-on service. The ST2000VX017 integrates cleanly into scaled-out DVR/NVR pools, enabling predictable expansion by adding bays rather than re-architecting PCIe storage, while keeping operational power within typical enclosure budgets.

Seagate designs SkyHawk-class drives around workload-aware firmware, enterprise-focused validation, and sustained operation targets, aligning with contemporary data center and edge standards for vibration tolerance, sector format compatibility, and lifecycle support practices.

Key Applications:

NVR/DVR continuous video recording
Surveillance retention tiers in multi-bay enclosures
Edge/SMB file and log retention
Workstation secondary bulk storage

At Happyware - Server Hardware you benefit from non-binding offers tailored to your storage topology and procurement schedule, and you can secure additional investment protection through an extended warranty of up to 6 years for ST2000VX017 deployments.
