ST12000VE003

High-Capacity 3.5-inch Enterprise SATA HDD for always-on video workloads with the ST12000VE003

The ST12000VE003 is a 12TB 3.5-inch enterprise HDD engineered for continuous write-intensive storage in surveillance and edge analytics nodes, while also fitting cleanly into server capacity tiers. In typical deployments, the ST12000VE003 sits behind modern multi-core CPU platforms as a high-density bulk layer, freeing NVMe or SSD tiers for metadata, inference caches, and transactional I/O while sustaining long sequential streams.

With a SATA interface and 7200RPM CMR recording, the ST12000VE003 supports predictable sustained write behavior across long retention windows. Its 512MB cache and 4Kn media with 512e emulation enable compatibility with common RAID/HBA controllers and operating systems, simplifying integration into PCIe-based storage topologies where SATA expanders or backplanes are used. Helium sealing improves platter efficiency, and RV sensing helps maintain performance consistency in multi-bay chassis with vibration coupling.

Why Choose the ST12000VE003?

The ST12000VE003 provides an effective density-to-reliability profile for always-on recording stacks that must scale by adding bays rather than increasing platform complexity. ImagePerfect firmware targets write coherence for multi-stream video, while the 2.5M-hour MTBF supports enterprise duty cycles and reduces unplanned service events. For distributed deployments, the ST12000VE003 enables straightforward scaling of NVR/DVR pools and edge nodes using standard SATA infrastructure.

Seagate designs the SkyHawk AI family with data-centre-aligned validation, focusing on endurance under sustained write workloads, vibration-aware operation, and predictable field reliability. The included Rescue data recovery service adds an additional operational safeguard for fleets where retention integrity and rapid recovery procedures are critical.

Key Applications:

NVR/DVR video surveillance storage
AI-enabled video analytics recording
Edge recording nodes with 24/7 duty cycles
General-purpose server bulk capacity tier
Backup targets and archival staging

At Happyware - Server Hardware you benefit from non-binding offers tailored precisely to your storage rollout and bulk order discount options when standardizing on the ST12000VE003 across sites or chassis builds.
