ST1000VX005 Seagate SkyHawk 1TB SATA 64 MB 3.5" Server HDD

Write-Optimized 3.5in SATA Surveillance HDD architecture with the ST1000VX005

The ST1000VX005 is a 3.5in internal SATA HDD engineered for DVR/NVR edge recording where sustained ingest matters more than peak burst throughput. In surveillance platforms, the ST1000VX005 supports predictable sequential writes to keep multi-camera streams consistent under a 24x7 duty cycle, aligning storage behavior with recorder CPU and network capture pipelines rather than workstation-style mixed I/O.

Designed around a CMR recording profile with ImagePerfect firmware, the ST1000VX005 maintains stable write latency for single-disk deployments and small RAID sets. SATA connectivity enables broad compatibility with embedded recorder backplanes and standard server HBAs, while 4Kn/512e support helps integrate into modern file systems and controller stacks that require advanced format readiness. RV sensor capability improves robustness in multi-bay enclosures, reducing performance variance when adjacent drives introduce vibration.

Why Choose the ST1000VX005?

The ST1000VX005 offers an enterprise-relevant balance of capacity, predictable write behavior, and operational durability for security environments where storage is a continuous service. With RAID-ready design, 1,000,000-hour MTBF positioning, and power characteristics suited to always-on appliances, the ST1000VX005 scales cleanly from single-site recorders to standardized SMB deployments without requiring specialized encryption features or controller-specific tuning.

Seagate designs SkyHawk drives with a reliability-first engineering approach for edge systems, focusing on firmware control of sustained workloads, thermal operating margins, and mechanical tolerance in dense enclosures. This philosophy aligns with practical data center and distributed security standards where repeatable behavior, serviceability, and long-life operation are prioritized.

Key Applications:

• DVR and NVR continuous recording
• Edge video storage appliances
• SMB security and access control systems
• Small RAID surveillance arrays
